What can you use the app for?

Keeping schedules is very important for many people today. Staying on top of important dates and times is not always easy. Laytr takes email and turns it into a tool that can help users keep up with their daily, weekly or monthly schedules. The system works by allowing users to set up email alerts through Laytr. He user sends an email to the relevant Laytr address (as shown on the website). Once the set time (which makes up the first part of the Laytr email address) arrives, Laytr sends the user an email reminder. For example, if the user would like to receive a reminder on Monday, they can email to set up their reminder. When Monday arrives, the user will receive an email alert with their reminder (which was written in the email body when the user sent the original email message to Laytr). The system is easy to use and allows users flexibility in their alert scheduling.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Laytr was created in 2010 by Sorenso and Papaya Design and Marketing. Sorenso is a content management solutions company based out of Oslo, Norway. Papaya Design and Marketing is a media, design and advertising agency also based out of Oslo. Laytr was created to give users another, easier way to set up reminders that can help them stick to a schedule and remember important dates. Laytr is currently in beta, so there may be updates and changes made in the future.

What are the differences to other apps?

There are many organizational and scheduling applications available today. Laytr really stands out because of the way it reminds users of their future commitments. The main attraction is the email system. Users actually enter the date, time or month they want to be reminded in the email sent to Laytr. This works very effectively and makes it fast and easy for users to set up a reminder without leaving their email inbox.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Laytr website has a very attractive black and yellow design along with a primarily white background. The stylish Laytr logo in bright yellow adds a hint of color, along with the red text of visible links in the navigation bar. The system is very easy to use, made even easier by the clean, organized layout of the website.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can click the white “Sign Up” button at the top, right hand corner of the Laytr website (in the black header). The registration process is kept very simple, requiring only a valid email address and password. A check box is present at the bottom of the form that allows the user to sign up for email updates. This box must be checked to opt in which is a nice touch, considering how many sites automatically check this box (forcing the user to manually uncheck it rather than the other way around). Users can also click the blue Facebook button to register with their Facebook account.

What does it cost to use the application?

Laytr offers its users three membership plans to choose from. The first is a free plan which includes the ability to send emails to others, unlimited emails, unlimited attachments, control panel access and the ability to stop scheduled email alerts. A Premium membership is also offered, but requires the user to contact Laytr because this account is offered by invitation only at this time. Premium accounts include unbranded emails and the ability to schedule emails from the user dashboard. A Business Edition plan is also available, but the user must contact Laytr to obtain a quote.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Laytr is a helpful service for anyone who wants to find a better way to manage schedules. Email is generally a convenient approach to this task; however some people may prefer calendars or other methods. It simply depends on the user’s individual preferences.
